Reflections on Day 5 of the Brisbane to Byron Walk

It was great to stay at Shirlene’s last night. We’ve been friends for nearly 40 years, having gone through high school together. She’s a great friend.

I missed putting a lovely event in my musings yesterday. Last night at She’s birthday party, I met her Dad, Geoff, and his wife, Robyn. Really wonderful people. They showed great interest in the work I’m doing overseas and contributed to the fundraising for the walk. Blessings to them.

This morning, I took a taxi to the Oxenford Shops where I’d stopped yesterday. The pulled muscle in my leg needed rest after the massage. And my body was very glad to get some recuperation too.

According to the map (yes, I’m using Google maps again), it would be a straight-ish walk to Westfield Helensvale. And it was, quick and easy and mostly flat. As I passed Movieworld, I thought of my friend Kate (she works on the rides there) and then some sweet memories surfaced from when I took my children to Movieworld as little boys. We’d had an awesome day seeing how movies are made, saying hello to many TV/movie characters and the rides were so much fun. Good times.

At Helensvale, I did a spot of shopping (Xmas presents) and had a quick breakfast and coffee at Zarraffas. Pretty soon, I was walking the footpath again to head toward the coast and ocean. An hour before I came to the water, I could smell it. I’m sure I’d see the water just over the next hill. “Are we there yet?” I could hear my inner child asking over and over. That was a looooonnggg hour. Finally I made it!!! Oh joy of joys!! I had walked 90kms in 5 days. I was ecstatic!! I sat on the sand and stood in the water for ages, soaking up the sea air. My body thrives on salty, ocean air and mist, clearing my lungs and sinuses….aaahhhh…..

My friend Susie, came and picked me up. I’ve known her, Craig and the family for 8/9 years. I’m blessed to be staying with them for the next few days. We head to the local shops for some last minute Christmas shopping. What madness and chaos in the carparks and in the shops!! People go silly at Christmas time.

Finally, we arrive at the Susie’s home. The spa is on but I’m too tired to use it, crazy eh? I have a soak in the bath with the bath salts I’d been given a couple of days earlier, I felt them working instantly. Susie and I then chat for ages, we eat and I go to sleep. Now I rest completely for the next day.

Inspirational Thought – Love and connection are the most important gifts you can give another. So, give freely, give openly, give unconditionally.
